The Garga-samhita Verse 5.5.38, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. रजक उवाच
इदृशान्य् एव वस्त्राणि
पितृभिर् वः पितामहैः
धारितानि किम् उद्वृत्तास्
ते तु कौपीन-धारकाः

rajaka uvāca
idṛśāny eva vastrāṇi
pitṛbhir vaḥ pitāmahaiḥ
dhāritāni kim udvṛttās
te tu kaupīna-dhārakāḥ

rajaka uvāca—the washerman said; idṛśāny—like this; eva—indeed; vastrāṇi—garments; pitṛbhiḥ—by the fathers; vaḥ—of You; pitāmahaiḥ—by the grandfathers; dhāritāni—worn; kim—what?; udvṛttāḥ—proud; te—they; tu—indeed; kaupīna-dhārakāḥ—the wearers of kaupinas.

English translation of verse 5.5.38:

The washerman said: O proud wearers of kaupīnas, did Your fathers or grandfathers ever wear clothes like these?
