नागानां च यथा शेषः
पक्षिणां गरुडो यथा
देवानां च यथा विष्णुर्
वर्णानां ब्राह्मणो यथा
वृक्षाणां च यथाश्वत्थः
पत्राणां तुलसी यथा
व्रतानां च तथा गोप्यो
वरा चैकादशी तिथिः
nāgānāṃ ca yathā śeṣaḥ
pakṣiṇāṃ garuḍo yathā
devānāṃ ca yathā viṣṇur
varṇānāṃ brāhmaṇo yathā
vṛkṣāṇāṃ ca yathāśvatthaḥ
patrāṇāṃ tulasī yathā
vratānāṃ ca tathā gopyo
varā caikādaśī tithiḥ

English translation of verse 4.8.50:
O gopīs, as Lord Seṣa is the best of serpents, as Garuḍa is the best of birds, as Lord Viṣṇu is the best of Deities, as the brāhmaṇas are the best of castes, as the banyan is the best of trees, and as a tulasī leaf is the best of leaves, so fasting on ekādaśī day is the best of sacred vows.
