न जातो वसुदेवस्य
सकाशे ऽद्य हरिः परः
ऋषि-वाक्यं मृषा न स्यात्
कस्मै दास्यामि कन्यकाः
na jāto vasudevasya
sakāśe 'dya hariḥ paraḥ
ṛṣi-vākyaṃ mṛṣā na syāt
kasmai dāsyāmi kanyakāḥ
na—not; jātaḥ—born; vasudevasya—of Vasudeva; sakāśe—in the presence; adya—now; hariḥ—the Supreme Personality of Godhead; paraḥ—supreme; ṛṣi-vākyam—the words of the sage; mṛṣā—false; na—not; syāt—are; kasmai—to whom?; dāsyāmi—I will give; kanyakāḥ—my daughters.
English translation of verse 4.6.21:
Although the sage's words cannot be untrue, the Supreme Personality of Godhead has not taken birth as Vasudeva's son. To whom shall I give my daughters in marriage?
