The Garga-samhita Verse 3.7.16, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 3 of Chapter 7 (The Holy Places of Shri Giriraja) of Canto 3 (giriraja-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

वंशी-धरो वेत्र-वरेण गोपैः
पुरश् च तासां विनिधाय पादम्
मह्यं करादान-धनाय दानं
देहीति गोपीर् निजगाद मार्गे

vaṃśī-dharo vetra-vareṇa gopaiḥ
puraś ca tāsāṃ vinidhāya pādam
mahyaṃ karādāna-dhanāya dānaṃ
dehīti gopīr nijagāda mārge

vaṃśī-dharaḥholding a flute; vetra-vareṇa—with a stick; gopaiḥ—with the gopas; puraḥahead; ca—and; tasam—of them; vinidhāya—placing; pādam—foor; mahyam—to me; karadana-dhanāya dānama toll; dehigive; iti—thus; gopīḥ—to the gopīs; nijagāda—said; mārge—on the pathway.

English translation of verse 3.7.16:

Holding a flute and a stick, and going ahead of the gopas, Kṛṣṇa confronted the gopīs on the path and demanded, "You must pay a toll to Me."
