लोके लज्जा गता सर्वा
हासः स्याच् चेद् धनोद्भृतम्
किं कर्तव्यं तत् प्रति यच्
छ्री-कृष्णोद्वाह-कर्मणि
loke lajjā gatā sarvā
hāsaḥ syāc ced dhanodbhṛtam
kiṃ kartavyaṃ tat prati yac
chrī-kṛṣṇodvāha-karmaṇi
loke—before the people; lajjā—embarrassment; gatā—attained; sarvā—all; hāsaḥ—laughter; syāc—will be; cet—if; dhana—wealth; udbhṛtam—held; kim—what?; kartavyam—should be done; tat—that; prati—to; yac—what; śrī-kṛṣṇa—of Śrī Kṛṣṇa; udvāha—marriage; karmaṇi—in the deed.
English translation of verse 3.6.18:
"If we do not give a proper gift we will be embarrassed before everyone.
Everyone will laugh at us. What should we do? What can we give on the occasion of Śrī Kṛṣṇa's wedding?"
