सुवर्ण-भार-शतकं
रजतं यच्-चतुर्-गुणम्
तत्-फलं समवाप्नोति
तुलसी-वन-पालनात्
suvarṇa-bhāra-śatakaṃ
rajataṃ yac-catur-guṇam
tat-phalaṃ samavāpnoti
tulasī-vana-pālanāt
suvarṇa—of gold; bhāra—bharas; śatakam—a hundred; rajatam—silver; yac-catur-guṇam—four times; tat-phalam—that result; samavāpnoti—attains; tulasī—of Tulasī; vana—of a forest; pālanāt—from protection.
English translation of verse 2.16.9:
By protecting a Tulasī forest one attains the result of giving in pious charity a hundred bhāras of gold or four hundred bhāras of silver.
