स्तुवन्ति वेदाः सततं च यं सदा
हरेर् महिम्नः किल षोडशीं कलाम्
कदापि जानन्ति न ते त्रि-लोके
वक्तुं गुणांश् तस्य जनो ऽस्ति कः परः
stuvanti vedāḥ satataṃ ca yaṃ sadā
harer mahimnaḥ kila ṣoḍaśīṃ kalām
kadāpi jānanti na te tri-loke
vaktuṃ guṇāṃś tasya jano 'sti kaḥ paraḥ
stuvanti—offer prayers; vedāḥ—the Vedas; satatam—always; ca—and; yam—to whom; sadā—always; hareḥ—of Lord Hari; mahimnaḥ—of the glory; kila—indeed; ṣoḍaśīm—sixteenth; kalām—part; kadāpi—sometimes; jānanti—know; na—not; te—of You; tri-loke—in the three woirlds; vaktum—to say; guṇān—the qualities; tasya—of Him; janaḥ—a person; asti—so; kaḥ—who?; paraḥ—is able.
English translation of verse 2.9.12:
Athough they always praise Him, the Vedas do not understand even one sixteenth of Lord Hari's glories. Who in the three worlds has the power to describe His qualities?
