यावन् मनश् च रजसा प्रबलेन विद्वन्
सङ्कल्प एव तु विकल्पक एव तावत्
ताभ्यां भवेन् मनसिजस् त्व् अभिमान-योगस्
तेनापि बुद्धि-विकृतिं क्रमतः प्रयान्ति
yāvan manaś ca rajasā prabalena vidvan
saṅkalpa eva tu vikalpaka eva tāvat
tābhyāṃ bhaven manasijas tv abhimāna-yogas
tenāpi buddhi-vikṛtiṃ kramataḥ prayānti
yāvat—as; manaś—the mind; ca—and; rajasā—with passion; prabalena—powerful; vidvān—wise; saṅkalpa—acceptance; eva—indeed; tu—indeed; vikalpaka—rejection; eva—indeed; tāvat—so; tābhyām—with them; bhavet—may be; manasijaḥ—the desire for sense gratification; tv—indeed; abhimāna—pride; yogaḥ—contact; tena—by that; api—also; buddhi—of intelligence; vikṛtim—— ruination; kramataḥ—gradually; prayānti—attain.
English translation of verse 2.9.6:
O wise one, when the mind is influenced by passion it accepts the materially pleasant and rejects the materially unpleasant. By these two actions material desires and arrogant pride breed in the heart. In this way the intelligence is gradually disfigured.
