The Garga-samhita Verse 2.5.18, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 2 of Chapter 5 (The Liberation of Bakasura) of Canto 2 (vrindavana-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

तदा शक्ति-धरः शक्तिं
तस्मै चिक्षेप स-त्वरः
तयैक-पादो भग्नो ऽभून्
न मृतः पक्षिणां वरः

tadā śakti-dharaḥ śaktiṃ
tasmai cikṣepa sa-tvaraḥ
tayaika-pādo bhagno 'bhūn
na mṛtaḥ pakṣiṇāṃ varaḥ

tadāthen; śakti-dharaḥkārttikeya; śaktim—sakti; tasmai—to him; cikṣepa—threw; sa-tvaraḥ—quickly; tayāby that; eka—one; pādaḥ—foot; bhagnaḥ—broken; abhūn—was; na—not; mṛtaḥ—died; pakṣiṇām—of birds; varaḥ—the best.

English translation of verse 2.5.18:

Then Kārttikeya threw his śakti-weapon at him. Although one of his feet was cut, that demon, the best of birds, did not die.
