The Garga-samhita Verse 2.2.4, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 2 of Chapter 2 (Description of Giriraja Govardhana’s Birth) of Canto 2 (vrindavana-khanda).

श्री-सन्नन्द उवाच
एकदा हास्तिनपुरे
भीष्मं धर्म-भृतां वरम्
पप्रच्छ पाण्डुर् इत्थं तं
जनानां चानुशृण्वताम्

śrī-sannanda uvāca
ekadā hāstinapure
bhīṣmaṃ dharma-bhṛtāṃ varam
papraccha pāṇḍur itthaṃ taṃ
janānāṃ cānuśṛṇvatām

śrī-sannandaḥ uvāca—Śrī Sannanda said; ekadāone day; hastinapure—in Hastinapura; bhīṣmam—to Bhisma; dharma-bhṛtāṃpious; varambenediction; papraccha—asked; pāṇḍuḥPandu; ittham—thus; tam—him; janānām—of people; ca—and; anuśṛṇvatām—listening;

English translation of verse 2.2.4:

One day in Hastinapura, as many people listened, King Pāṇḍu asked pious Bhīṣma:
