श्री-देवल उवाच
युवां वृक्ष-समौ दृष्टौ
निर्लज्जौ द्रव्य-दर्पितौ
तस्माद् वृक्षौ तु भूयस् तं
वर्षाणां शतकं भुवि
śrī-devala uvāca
yuvāṃ vṛkṣa-samau dṛṣṭau
nirlajjau dravya-darpitau
tasmād vṛkṣau tu bhūyas taṃ
varṣāṇāṃ śatakaṃ bhuvi
śrī-devalaḥ uvāca—Śrī Devala said; yuvām—you both; vṛkṣa—trees; samau—equal to; dṛṣṭau—seen; nirlajjau—without shame; dravya-darpitau—proud of possessions; tasmāt—then; vṛkṣau—trees; tu—indeed; bhūyaḥ—become; tam—that; varṣāṇām—of years; śatakam—a hundred; bhuvi—on the earth.
English translation of verse 1.19.30:
Śrī Devala Muni said: I see You two shameless and proud men have become like trees. For this reason you will now be trees for a hundred years on the earth.
