आदाय यद् यद् बहु दाम तत् तत्
स्व्-अल्पं प्रभूतं स्व-सुते यशोदा
गुणैर् न बद्धः प्रकृतेः परो यः
कथं स बद्धो भवतीह दाम्ना
ādāya yad yad bahu dāma tat tat
sv-alpaṃ prabhūtaṃ sva-sute yaśodā
guṇair na baddhaḥ prakṛteḥ paro yaḥ
kathaṃ sa baddho bhavatīha dāmnā
ādāya—taking; yad yat—whatever; bahu—great; dāma—rope; tat tat—that; su—very; alpam—small; prabhūtam—become; sva-sute—on her son; yaśodā—Yaśodā; guṇaiḥ—with ropes; na—not; baddhaḥ—bound; prakṛteḥ—the material world; paraḥ—above; yaḥ—who; katham—how?; saḥ—He; baddhaḥ—bound; bhavati—is; iha—here; dāmnā—with rope.
English translation of verse 1.19.8:
The ropes all became very small on her son. He who is beyond the material world cannot be bound with rope. How can He be bound with rope?
