यशोदा तत्-सुतं वीक्ष्य
हसन्ती प्राह गोपिकाम्
वस्त्रान्तं च मुखाद् गोपि
दूरी-कृत्य वदांहसः
yaśodā tat-sutaṃ vīkṣya
hasantī prāha gopikām
vastrāntaṃ ca mukhād gopi
dūrī-kṛtya vadāṃhasaḥ
yaśodā—Yaśodā; tat-sutam—her son; vīkṣya—looking; hasantī—laughing; prāha—said; gopikām—to the gopī; vastra—garment; antam—end; ca—and; mukhāt—from the mouth; gopī—the gopī; dūrī-kṛtya—taking far away; vada—tell; aṃhasaḥ—the offense.
English translation of verse 1.17.36:
Seeing Her son, Yaśodā smiled and said to the gopī, "O gopī, take the edge of the garment from His face and tell the mischief He has done.
