श्री-नारद उवाच
तदा स उत्थाय विधिर् हुताशनं
प्रज्वल्य कुण्डे स्थितयोस् तयोः पुरः
श्रुतेः कर-ग्राह-विधिं विधानतो
विधाय धाता समवस्थितो ऽभवत्

śrī-nārada uvāca
tadā sa utthāya vidhir hutāśanaṃ
prajvalya kuṇḍe sthitayos tayoḥ puraḥ
śruteḥ kara-grāha-vidhiṃ vidhānato
vidhāya dhātā samavasthito 'bhavat

śrī-nāradaḥ uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; tadāthen; saḥ—he; utthāyarising; vidhiḥBrahmā; hutāśanam—the sacred fire; prajvalya—kindling; kuṇḍein a pit; sthitayos-standing; tayoḥ—Them; puraḥ—before; śruteḥ—of the Vedas; karahand; grāha—taking; vidhim—the ceremony; vidhānataḥ—the rules; vidhāya—performing; dhātāBrahmā; samavasthitaḥ—stood; abhavat—became.

English translation of verse 1.16.31:

Then Brahmā rose, ignited the sacred fire, and performed the Vedic wedding-ceremony of the divine couple.
