सर्वावसेषाद्यं शेषं
बलाधिक्याद् बलं विदुः
स्व-पुत्रस्यापि नामानि
शृणु नन्द ह्य् अतन्द्रितः
sarvāvaseṣādyaṃ śeṣaṃ
balādhikyād balaṃ viduḥ
sva-putrasyāpi nāmāni
śṛṇu nanda hy atandritaḥ
sarva—everything; avaseṣa—remaining; ādyam—beginning; śeṣam—Śeṣa; bala-ādhikyāt—because of great strength; balam—Bala; viduḥ—know; sva-putrasya—of your own son; api—also; nāmāni—the names; śṛṇu—please hear; nanda—O Nanda; hi—indeed; atandritaḥ—without being fatigued.
English translation of verse 1.15.27:
Because when the universe is annihilated He alone remains (avaśeṣa), the sages know Him as Śeṣa. Because He is extremely strong (bala), they know Him as Bala.
