बालम् अङ्के सा गृहीत्वा
यशोदा ग्रह-शङ्किता
कारयाम् आस विधि-वद्
यज्ञं विप्रैः सु-तर्पितैः
bālam aṅke sā gṛhītvā
yaśodā graha-śaṅkitā
kārayām āsa vidhi-vad
yajñaṃ vipraiḥ su-tarpitaiḥ
bālam—the infant; aṅke—on the lap; sā—she; gṛhītvā—taking; yaśoda—Yaśodā; graha—a ghost; śaṅkitā—fearing; kārayām āsa—caused to be done; vidhi-vat—according to the rules; yajñam—a sacrifice; vipraiḥ—by the brāhmaṇas; su-tarpitaiḥ—pleased.
English translation of verse 1.14.16:
Fearing a ghost had come, Yaśodā took the infant on her lap, gave offerings to the brāhmaṇas and had them perform a traditional yajña.
