तदा नन्दादयो गोपा
आगता मथुरा-पुरात्
दृष्ट्वा घोरं पूतनाख्यं
बभूवुर् भय-विह्वलाः

tadā nandādayo gopā
āgatā mathurā-purāt
dṛṣṭvā ghoraṃ pūtanākhyaṃ
babhūvur bhaya-vihvalāḥ

tadāthen; nanda-ādayaḥ—headed by Nanda; gopāḥthe gopas; āgatāḥ—arrived; mathurā-purāt—from the city of Mathurā; dṛṣṭvāseeing; ghoram—horror; pūtanā-ākhyam—named Pūtanā; babhūvuḥ—became; bhayawith fear; vihvalāḥ—overwhelmed.

English translation of verse 1.13.25:

When, just returned from Mathurā City, the gopas headed by Nanda saw horrible Pūtanā, they were overcome with fear.
