The Garga-samhita Verse 1.11.55, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 1 of Chapter 11 (Description of Shri Krishnacandra’s Birth) of Canto 1 (goloka-khanda).

श्री-नारद उवाच
अश्रु-मुख्या मोहितया
समाच्छाद्यात्मजं बहु
प्रार्थितो ऽङ्काद् विनिर्भर्त्स्य
तां स अचिच्छिदे खलः

śrī-nārada uvāca
aśru-mukhyā mohitayā
samācchādyātmajaṃ bahu
prārthito 'ṅkād vinirbhartsya
tāṃ sa acicchide khalaḥ

śrī-nāradaḥ uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; aśrutears; mukhyāface; mohitayā—bewildered; samācchādya—covering; ātmajām—daughter; bahumany times; prārthitaḥ—begged; aṅkāt—from the lap; vinirbhartsya—rebuking; tām—her; saḥ—he; ācicchide—attacked; khalaḥ—the demon.

English translation of verse 1.11.55:

Śrī Nārada said: Bewildered, and her face covered with tears, Devakī pleased and tried to hold the child in her lap. The demon Kaṃsa rebuked her and grabbed the child.
