देवक्याह् सप्तमे गर्भे
हर्ष-सोक-विवर्धने
व्रजं प्रणीते रोहिण्याम्
अनन्ते योगमायया
अहो गर्भह् क्व विगत
इत्य् ऊचुर् माथुरा जनाह्
devakyāh saptame garbhe
harṣa-soka-vivardhane
vrajaṃ praṇīte rohiṇyām
anante yogamāyayā
aho garbhah kva vigata
ity ūcur māthurā janāh
devakyāh—of Devakī; saptame—in the seventh; garbhe—embryo; harṣa— happiness; soka—and grief; vivardhane—increasing; vrajam—to Vraja; praṇīte— brought; rohiṇyām—in Rohiṇī; anante—Ananta; yogamāyayā—by Yogamāyā; ahah— Oh; garbhah—embryo; kva—where?; vigatah—gone; iti—thus; ūcuh—said; māthurāh janāh—the people of Mathurā.
English translation of verses 1.10.25-26:
When Yogamāyā carried Devakī's seventh fetus, which brought her both joy and grief, to Vraja and placed it in Rohiṇī's womb, the people of Mathurā said,
"Where did the child go?"
