द्वार-देशे ऽपि वीराणां
युद्धं जातं परप्स्परम्
खड्ग-प्रहारैर् अयुतं
जनानां निधनं गतम्
dvāra-deśe 'pi vīrāṇāṃ
yuddhaṃ jātaṃ parapsparam
khaḍga-prahārair ayutaṃ
janānāṃ nidhanaṃ gatam
dvāra-dese—in the doorway; api—even; vīrāṇām—of the soldiers; yuddham— battle; jātam—was born; parapsparam—mutual; khaḍga—of swords; prahāraih— with blows; ayutam—ten thousand; janānām—of people; nidhanam—to death; gatam—went.
English translation of verse 1.10.17:
The soldiers fought a great battle in the doorway. By the blows of their swords ten thousand people died.
