The Garga-samhita Verse 1.10.12, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 1 of Chapter 10 (Description of the Birth of Lord Balarama) of Canto 1 (goloka-khanda).

वसुदेवं देवकीं च
बद्ध्वाथ निगडैर् दृढैह्
ममर्द तं शिला-पृष्ठे
देवकी-गर्भजं शिशुम्

vasudevaṃ devakīṃ ca
baddhvātha nigaḍair dṛḍhaih
mamarda taṃ śilā-pṛṣṭhe
devakī-garbhajaṃ śiśum

vasudevam—Vasudeva; devakīm—Ddvakī; ca—and; baddhvā—binding; atha then; nigaḍaih—in chains; dṛḍhaih—firm; mamarda—beat; tam—him; śilāof stone; pṛṣṭhe—on the surface; devakī-garbhajaṃ śiśum—Devakī's son.

English translation of verse 1.10.12:

Kaṃsa tightly bound Vasudeva and Devakī in chains. Then he crushed Devakī's son against a stone surface.
