The Garga-samhita Verse 1.9.16, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. श्री-वसुदेव उवाच
भोजेन्द्र भोज-कुल-कीर्ति-करस् त्वम् एव
भौमादि-मागध-बकासुर-वत्स-बाणैः
श्लाघ्या गुणास् तव युधि प्रतियोद्धु-कामैः
स त्वं कथं तु भगिनीम् असिनात्र हन्यात्
śrī-vasudeva uvāca
bhojendra bhoja-kula-kīrti-karas tvam eva
bhaumādi-māgadha-bakāsura-vatsa-bāṇaiḥ
ślāghyā guṇās tava yudhi pratiyoddhu-kāmaiḥ
sa tvaṃ kathaṃ tu bhaginīm asinātra hanyāt
śrī-vasudevaḥ uvāca—Śrī Vasudeva said; bhoja-indra—O king of the Bhojas; bhoja-kula—of the Bhoja family; kīrti-karaḥ—the glory; tvam—you; eva—indeed; bhauma—narakāsura; ādi—beginning with; māgadha—the king of Magadha; bakāsura—Bakāsura; vatsa—Vatsa; bāṇaiḥ—by bāṇa; ślāghyāḥ—glorified; guṇāḥ—virtues; tava—your; yudhi—in battle; pratiyoddhu-kāmaiḥ—desiring to fight; saḥ—he; tvam—you; katham—why?; tu—certainly; bhaginīm—sister; asinā—with a sword; atra—here; hanyāt—will kill.
English translation of verse 1.9.16:
Śrī Vasudeva said: O king of the Bhojas, you are the glory of the Bhoja dynasty.
Narakāsura, Jarāsandha, Bakāsura, Vatsāsura, and Bāṇāsura, who all yearned to fight with you, praise your virtues in battle. Why are you now on the verge of killing with a sword your own sister?
