The Garga-samhita Verse 1.7.7, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 1 of Chapter 7 (Description of the Conquest of All Directions) of Canto 1 (goloka-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

प्रेरितश् चेति कंसाख्यो
मया युद्धि-दिदृक्षुणा
भुज-वीर्य-मदोन्नद्धः

preritaś ceti kaṃsākhyo
mayā yuddhi-didṛkṣuṇā
bhuja-vīrya-madonnaddhaḥ

शोनिताख्यं पुरं ययौ

śonitākhyaṃ puraṃ yayau

preritassent; ca—also; iti—thus; kaṃsa—Kaṃsa; ākhyo—named; mayā—by me; yuddhi—a fight; didṛkṣuṇā—with the desire to see; bhuja—of his arms;

English translation of verse 1.7.7:

vīrya—by the power; mada-unnaddhaḥ—overcome with pride; śonitā-Ākhyaṃ—

named Śonitā; puram—to the city; yayau—went.

Thus sent by me, Kaṃsa, who was filled with pride in the strength of his arms and was looking for a fight, went to the city named Śonitā.
