आगच्छन्तं दशन्तं च
गृहीत्वा तं निपत्य सः
चकार स्व-गले हारं
निर्भयो दैत्य-राड् बली
āgacchantaṃ daśantaṃ ca
gṛhītvā taṃ nipatya saḥ
cakāra sva-gale hāraṃ
nirbhayo daitya-rāḍ balī
āgacchantam—coming; daśantam—biting; ca—and; gṛhītvā—grasped; tam—it; nipatya—falling; saḥ—he; cakāra—did; sva-gale—on the neck; hāram—necklace; nirbhayaḥ—fearless; daitya—of the demons; rāḍ—the king; balī—strong.
English translation of verse 1.6.46:
When the serpent approached and bit him, the fearless and very powerful demon-king Kaṃsa jumped on it and became like a necklace squeezing its neck.
