श्रुत्वा वचस् तदा दैत्यः
को-दण्डं सप्त-तालकम्
गृहीत्वा पश्यतस् तस्य
सज्जं कृत्वाथ लीलया
śrutvā vacas tadā daityaḥ
ko-daṇḍaṃ sapta-tālakam
gṛhītvā paśyatas tasya
sajjaṃ kṛtvātha līlayā
śrutvā—hearing; vacaḥ—words; tadā—then; daityaḥ—the demon; ko-daṇḍam—the bow; sapta-tālakam—made of seven palm trees; gṛhītvā—holding; paśyataḥ—watching; tasya—of Him; sajjam—preparation; kṛtvā—doing; atha—then; līlayā—easily.
English translation of verse 1.6.38:
Hearing these words, the demon Kaṃsa picked up the bow made of seven palm trees. As Paraśurāma watched, Kaṃsa easily strung it.
