The Garga-samhita Verse 1.6.16, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 1 of Chapter 6 (Description of Kamsa’s Strength) of Canto 1 (goloka-khanda).

द्वन्द्व-योधी ततः कंसो
भुज-वीर्य-मदोत्कटः
माहिष्मतीं ययौ वीरो
ऽथैकाकी चण्ड-विक्रमः

dvandva-yodhī tataḥ kaṃso
bhuja-vīrya-madotkaṭaḥ
māhiṣmatīṃ yayau vīro
'thaikākī caṇḍa-vikramaḥ

dvandva-yodhi—eager to fight; tataḥ—then; kaṃsaḥKaṃsa; bhuja-vīrya-madotkaṭaḥ—proud of the strength of his arms; mahiṣmatīm—to Māhiṣmati; yayau—went; vīraḥ—the hero; athathen; ekākīalone; caṇḍa-vikramaḥpowerful.

English translation of verse 1.6.16:

Then, very proud of the strength of his arms, and eager to fight, powerful Kaṃsa went, all alone, to Māhiṣmatī City.
