जरासन्धो मागधेन्द्रो
दिग्-जयार्थी विनिर्गतः
यमुना-निकटे तस्य
शिबिरो ऽभूद् इतस् ततः
jarāsandho māgadhendro
dig-jayārthī vinirgataḥ
yamunā-nikaṭe tasya
śibiro 'bhūd itas tataḥ
jarāsandhaḥ—Jarāsandha; magadha—of Magadha; indraḥ—the king; dik—the directions; jaya—conquest; arthī—with the purpose; vinirgataḥ—went; yamunā-nikaṭe—by the Yamunā; tasya—of him; śibiraḥ—camp; abhūt—was; itas tataḥ—here and there.
English translation of verse 1.6.9:
Wishing to conquer all directions, Jarāsandha, the king of Magadha, set his royal camp at different places by the Yamunā's shore.
