The Garga-samhita Verse 1.4.53, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 1 of Chapter 4 (Description of Questions About the Lord’s Appearance) of Canto 1 (goloka-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

सीता यथेति वाक्येन
दुर्घटो दुर्लभो वरः
एक-पत्नी-व्रतो ऽहं वै
मर्यादा-पुरुषोत्तमः

sītā yatheti vākyena
durghaṭo durlabho varaḥ
eka-patnī-vrato 'haṃ vai
maryādā-puruṣottamaḥ

sītāSiātā; yathā—as; iti—thus; vākyena—by the statement; durghaṭaḥimpossible; durlabhaḥunattainable; varaḥbenediction; eka—one; patnīwife; vrataḥvow; aham—I; vai—indeed; maryādāof the rules of religion; puruṣaof persons; uttamaḥ—the best.

English translation of verse 1.4.53:

This request, to become "as Sītā is" is impossible and can never be granted. I have vowed to accept only one wife, and I am the best of they who follow the rules of religion.
