नन्दः प्रोक्तः स-गोपालैर्
नव-लक्ष-गवां पतिः
उपनन्दश् च कथितः
पञ्च-लक्ष-गवां पतिः
nandaḥ proktaḥ sa-gopālair
nava-lakṣa-gavāṃ patiḥ
upanandaś ca kathitaḥ
pañca-lakṣa-gavāṃ patiḥ
nandaḥ—Nanda; proktaḥ—said; sa-gopālaiḥ—with the gopas; nava-lakṣa—900,000; gavām—of cows; patiḥ—the master; upanandaḥ—Upananda; ca—also; kathitaḥ—said; pañca-lakṣa—500,000; gavām—of cows; patiḥ—the master.
English translation of verse 1.4.5:
The gopas say that Nanda is the master of 900,000 cows and Upananda is the master of 500,000 cows.
