श्री-ब्रह्मोवाच
कस्य वै नन्द-पदवी
कस्य वै वृषभानुता
वद देव-पते साक्षाद्
उपनन्दस्य लक्षणम्
śrī-brahmovāca
kasya vai nanda-padavī
kasya vai vṛṣabhānutā
vada deva-pate sākṣād
upanandasya lakṣaṇam
śrī-brahmā uvāca—Śrī Brahmā said; kasya—of whom?; vai—indeed; nanda—of Nanda; padavī—path; kasya—of whom?; vai—indeed; vṛṣabhānutā—of King Vṛṣabhānu; vada—tell; deva—of the demigods; pate—O lord; sākṣāt—directly; upanandasya—of Upananda; lakṣaṇam—the characteristics.
English translation of verse 1.4.3:
Śrī Brahmā said: Who is Nanda? Who is Vṛṣabhānu? O master of the demigods, please describe the nature of Upananda.
