The Garga-samhita Verse 1.4.3, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 1 of Chapter 4 (Description of Questions About the Lord’s Appearance) of Canto 1 (goloka-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

श्री-ब्रह्मोवाच
कस्य वै नन्द-पदवी
कस्य वै वृषभानुता
वद देव-पते साक्षाद्
उपनन्दस्य लक्षणम्

śrī-brahmovāca
kasya vai nanda-padavī
kasya vai vṛṣabhānutā
vada deva-pate sākṣād
upanandasya lakṣaṇam

śrī-brahmā uvāca—Śrī Brahmā said; kasyaof whom?; vai—indeed; nandaof Nanda; padavīpath; kasya—of whom?; vai—indeed; vṛṣabhānutā—of King Vṛṣabhānu; vadatell; devaof the demigods; pateO lord; sākṣātdirectly; upanandasya—of Upananda; lakṣaṇam—the characteristics.

English translation of verse 1.4.3:

Śrī Brahmā said: Who is Nanda? Who is Vṛṣabhānu? O master of the demigods, please describe the nature of Upananda.
