येषाम् अन्तर्-गतो विष्णुः
कार्यं कृत्वा विनिर्गतः
नानावेषावतारांश् च
विद्धि राजन् महा-मते
yeṣām antar-gato viṣṇuḥ
kāryaṃ kṛtvā vinirgataḥ
nānāveṣāvatārāṃś ca
viddhi rājan mahā-mate
yeṣām—of whom; antaḥ—within; gataḥ—gone; viṣṇuḥ—Lord Viṣṇu; kāryam—mission; kṛtvā—having done; vinirgataḥ—departs; nānā—various; āveṣa-avatārān—āveśa incarnations; ca—also; viddhi—please know; rājan—O king; mahā-mate—great heart.
English translation of verse 1.1.21:
O great soul, O king, please know that in the various āveśa incarnations Lord Viṣṇu enters (a jīva), executes His mission, and then departs.
