श्रि-बहुलाश्व उवाच
कतिधा श्री-हरेर् विष्णोर्
अवतारो भवत्य् अलम्
साधूनां रक्षणार्थं हि
कृपया वदा मां प्रभो
śri-bahulāśva uvāca
katidhā śrī-harer viṣṇor
avatāro bhavaty alam
sādhūnāṃ rakṣaṇārthaṃ hi
kṛpayā vadā māṃ prabho
śri-bahulāśvaḥ uvāca—Śrī Bahulāśva said; katidhā—how many times; śrī-hareḥ—of Lord Hari; viṣṇoḥ—of Lord Viṣṇu; avatāraḥ—incarnation; bhavati—is; alam—greatly; sādhūnām—of the devotees; rakṣaṇa—protection; artham—for the purpose; hi—indeed; kṛpayā—by the mercy; vada—please tell; mām—me; prabhaḥ—O lord.
English translation of verse 1.1.15:
Śrī Bahulāśva said: How often does Lord Viṣṇu, who removes all that is inauspicious, descend to this world to protect the devotees? O lord, please kindly tell me.
