The Garga-samhita Verse 1.1.15, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 1 of Chapter 1 (Description of Shri-Krishna’s Glories) of Canto 1 (goloka-khanda).

श्रि-बहुलाश्व उवाच
कतिधा श्री-हरेर् विष्णोर्
अवतारो भवत्य् अलम्
साधूनां रक्षणार्थं हि
कृपया वदा मां प्रभो

śri-bahulāśva uvāca
katidhā śrī-harer viṣṇor
avatāro bhavaty alam
sādhūnāṃ rakṣaṇārthaṃ hi
kṛpayā vadā māṃ prabho

śri-bahulāśvaḥ uvāca—Śrī Bahulāśva said; katidhā—how many times; śrī-hareḥof Lord Hari; viṣṇoḥ—of Lord Viṣṇu; avatāraḥincarnation; bhavatiis; alamgreatly; sādhūnām—of the devotees; rakṣaṇaprotection; arthamfor the purpose; hi—indeed; kṛpayā—by the mercy; vadaplease tell; mām—me; prabhaḥ—O lord.

English translation of verse 1.1.15:

Śrī Bahulāśva said: How often does Lord Viṣṇu, who removes all that is inauspicious, descend to this world to protect the devotees? O lord, please kindly tell me.
