श्री-बहुलाश्व उवाच
यो ऽनादिर् आत्मा पुरुषो
भगवान् प्रकृतेः परः
कस्मात् तनुं समाधत्त
तन् मे ब्रूहि महा-मते
śrī-bahulāśva uvāca
yo 'nādir ātmā puruṣo
bhagavān prakṛteḥ paraḥ
kasmāt tanuṃ samādhatta
tan me brūhi mahā-mate
śrī-bahulāśvaḥ uvāca—Śrī Bahulāśva said; yaḥ—who; anādiḥ—beginningless; ātmā—self; puruṣaḥ—person; bhagavān—the Lord; prakṛteḥ—matter; paraḥ—above; kasmāt—why?; tanum—a form; samādhatta—accepted; tat—that; me—to me; brūhi—please tell; mahā-mate—O wise one.
English translation of verse 1.1.12:
Śrī Bahulāśva said: O wise one, please tell me why the beginningless Supreme Person, who is beyond the material energy, places His transcendental form in this world?
