श्री-गर्ग उवाच
साधु पृष्टं त्वया ब्रह्मन्
भगवद्-गुण-वर्णनम्
शृण्वतां गदतां यद् वै
पृच्छतां वितनोति शम्
śrī-garga uvāca
sādhu pṛṣṭaṃ tvayā brahman
bhagavad-guṇa-varṇanam
śṛṇvatāṃ gadatāṃ yad vai
pṛcchatāṃ vitanoti śam
śrī-gargaḥ uvāca—Śrī Garga Muni said; sādhu—well; pṛṣṭam—asked; tvayā—by you; brahman—O brāhmaṇa; bhagavat—of the Lord; guṇa—the qualities; varṇanam—the description; śṛṇvatām—of they who hear; gadatām—of they who speak; yat—which; vai—indeed; pṛcchatām—of they who ask; vitanoti—gives; śam—auspiciousness.
English translation of verse 1.1.8:
Śrī Garga Muni said: O brāhmaṇa, you have asked a worthy question. The description of the Lord's transcendental qualities brings auspiciousness to they who hear, speak, and ask.
