तस्मान् मे हृदि सम्भूतं
सन्देहं नाशय प्रभो
कतिधा श्री-हरेर् विष्णोर्
अवतारो भवत्य् अलम्

tasmān me hṛdi sambhūtaṃ
sandehaṃ nāśaya prabho
katidhā śrī-harer viṣṇor
avatāro bhavaty alam

tasmāt—therefore; me—my; hṛdi—in the heart; sambhūtam—born; sandeham—doubt; nāśaya—please destroy; prabhaḥ—O lord; katidhā—how many?; śrī-hareḥ—who removes all that is inauspicious; of Śrī Hari; viṣṇoḥ—of Viṣṇu; avatāraḥ—incarnations; bhavatiare; alammany.

English translation of verse 1.1.7:

Therefore, O lord, please destroy the doubt in my heart. How often does Lord Viṣṇu, who removes all that is inauspicious, descend to this world?
