तं दृष्ट्वा सहसोत्थाय
शौनको मुनिभिः सह
पूजयाम् आस पद्याद्यैर्
उपचारैर् विधानतः
taṃ dṛṣṭvā sahasotthāya
śaunako munibhiḥ saha
pūjayām āsa padyādyair
upacārair vidhānataḥ
tam—him; dṛṣṭvā—seeing; sahasā—at once; utthāya—rising; śaunakaḥ—Śaunaka; munibhiḥ saha—with the sages; pūjayām āsa—worshiped; padya-ādyaiḥ—beginning with water for washing the feet; upacāraiḥ—with many offerings; vidhānataḥ—according to religious tradition.
English translation of verse 1.1.5:
Seeing him, Śaunaka and the sages at once stood up and worshiped him by washing his feet and presenting many offerings according to ancient tradition.
