Cidgaganacandrika 82 [Shakti-shmashana in Savikalpaka and Nirvikalpaka Samadhis], English comparative study extracted from the two available commentaries—the Divyacakorika and the Kramaprakashika. The Cidgagana-candrika is an important Tantric work belonging to the Krama system of Kashmir Shaivism. Written by Kalidasa (Shrivatsa) in 312 Sanskrit verses, it deals with the knowledge regarding both the Macrocosmic and Microcosmic phenomena

नित्यभातरुचि विश्वघस्मरं दुर्निरीक्षमपि सन्निकेतनम् ।
त्वं श्मशानमसि वीरहृद्गतं क्षीणवृत्ति करवीरमिज्यसे ॥ ८२ ॥

nityabhātaruci viśvaghasmaraṃ durnirīkṣamapi sanniketanam |
tvaṃ śmaśānamasi vīrahṛdgataṃ kṣīṇavṛtti karavīramijyase || 82 ||

[Śakti-śmaśāna in Savikalpaka and Nirvikalpaka Samādhis]

Śmaśāna[9] is, the subduing of experiences caused by the contact of Indriyas with the sense objects. The cosmic abode of Śakti at this Savikalpa stage is present in the form of eternal brilliance though it is beyond Perception. This is the state in which the universe is withdrawn at the time of Pralaya. It is beyond all modes of knowledge and is not void. It is realizable by the self as the cit ever-shining in the Heart. When all activities vanish in Nirvikalpaka samādhi, the Sādhaka experiences his self shining as Prakāśa (Śiva) which is the state of Karavīra Śmaśāna.[2] This appears to have a corresponding treatment of this subject by Patanjali.[3]
