Cidgaganacandrika 46 [Shakti and Kula-Dharma], English comparative study extracted from the two available commentaries—the Divyacakorika and the Kramaprakashika. The Cidgagana-candrika is an important Tantric work belonging to the Krama system of Kashmir Shaivism. Written by Kalidasa (Shrivatsa) in 312 Sanskrit verses, it deals with the knowledge regarding both the Macrocosmic and Microcosmic phenomena

पञ्चवृत्तितनुरम्ब ! निर्गता शक्तिरर्पितकुलप्रभासना ।
त्वं शिवादकुलतः समेयुषी तेन तत्र पुनरेषि विश्रमम् ॥ ४६ ॥

pañcavṛttitanuramba ! nirgatā śaktirarpitakulaprabhāsanā |
tvaṃ śivādakulataḥ sameyuṣī tena tatra punareṣi viśramam || 46 ||

[Śakti and Kula-Dharma]

Ambā is the power, having as her seat well developed or illumined in any one similar group of three or five (knower, known and knowledge; creation, protection, destruction, non-appearance and appearance) emanating from Śiva who has no Kula or seat in any of the groups. Again she retires or merges in Śiva only. This is her Bhāva the power of birth and death revealed as Saṃsara. If Īśvara gives Kula-Dharma to Śakti, there is creation, if Śakti surrenders Kula Dharma to Īśvara, there is Pralaya, destruction or deluge.[1]

The destination of the power groups of Śiva and Śakti

Śakti offers Śiva the Projection of the entire manifestation through these five Śaktis beginning with Vāmeśvari by her five functions[2]:—

  1. Pramāṇa,
  2. Viparyāya,
  3. Vikalpa,
  4. Nidrā and
  5. Smṛti.

This projection alone is her effort. In the state of Samādhi or Sleep, by meditation or by her interest to unite with Śiva in the Akula state, she reverts from the act of creation. There is another interpretation with regard to the five functions.[3]
