Cidgaganacandrika 24 [Kali the Kinetic and Shivakala the Potential], English comparative study extracted from the two available commentaries—the Divyacakorika and the Kramaprakashika. The Cidgagana-candrika is an important Tantric work belonging to the Krama system of Kashmir Shaivism. Written by Kalidasa (Shrivatsa) in 312 Sanskrit verses, it deals with the knowledge regarding both the Macrocosmic and Microcosmic phenomena

अक्रमक्रमविमर्शलक्षणं या क्रमाक्रममयी क्रमाक्रमम् ।
अक्रमं शिवमवेक्ष्य मध्यगं त्वां च सत्कुलमिदं तवाननम् ॥ २४ ॥

akramakramavimarśalakṣaṇaṃ yā kramākramamayī kramākramam |
akramaṃ śivamavekṣya madhyagaṃ tvāṃ ca satkulamidaṃ tavānanam || 24 ||

A wise man, who knows Śivakāla as power discriminate shining in between creation and destruction, who is untouched by both, doing nothing, but known through both, and Kāli as destroyer of creation or creator of destruction having the three fold knowledge as her face, is liberated[1]

Krama and Akrama

Krama is Sṛṣṭi. Akrama is Pralaya. Both form part of Vimarśa Śakti[2] in accordance with the Dṛṣṭi-Sṛṣṭi vāda. Parāśakti, the Vimarśarūpā Śakti, proceeds to create the Svaras and Nādas in the form of Mātṛkas which is the Akrama Vimarśa; Varṇa Mātṛkas abide in Nādasaṃhāra and thus dissolve in Śiva is the Krama Vimarśa. Parā Prakṛtirūpa Śakti, is the cause of destruction in creation and of creation in destruction. She has her face as the three fold form of knowledge and Śiva-Kāla is the power discriminate, untouched by both creation and destruction. He shines in actionless state. His presence shines in both creation and destruction. The Jñāni knows this and hence gets liberated.
