The Chaitanya Bhagavata 3.3.445, English translation, including a commentary (Gaudiya-bhasya). This text is similair to the Caitanya-caritamrita and narrates the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, proclaimed to be the direct incarnation of Krishna (as Bhagavan) This is verse 445 of Antya-khanda chapter 3—“Mahaprabhu’s Deliverance of Sarvabhauma, Exhibition of His Six-armed Form, and Journey to Bengal”.

Bengali text, Devanagari and Unicode transliteration of verse 3.3.445:

`কলি-যুগে কিসের বৈষ্ণব, কি কীর্তন’ এই মত অনেক নিন্দিনু অনুক্ষণ ॥ ৪৪৫ ॥

`कलि-युगे किसेर वैष्णव, कि कीर्तन’ एइ मत अनेक निन्दिनु अनुक्षण ॥ ४४५ ॥

`kali-yuge kisera vaiṣṇava, ki kīrtana’ ei mata aneka nindinu anukṣaṇa || 445 ||

`kali-yuge kisera vaisnava, ki kirtana’ ei mata aneka nindinu anuksana (445)

English translation:

(445) “I would always make blasphemous statements like, `Who can be a Vaiṣṇava in Kali-yuga, and what is this kīrtana?’

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

People afflicted by argument in Kali-yuga cannot become Vaiṣṇavas, because there is no possibility for them to engage in chanting the glories of the Lord. Therefore true Vaiṣṇavism and performance of kīrtana are not possible in Kali-yuga—sinners would always make such blasphemous statements.
