Verse 2.10.42-044

তুমি ভাল চিন্তিলে না করোঙ্ মুঞি বল মোর চক্র তোমা লাগি’ হৈল বিফল কাটিতে না পারোঙ্ তোর সঙ্কল্প লাগিযাতোর পৃষ্ঠে পডোঙ্ তোর মারণ দেখিযা তোহার মারণ নিজ অঙ্গে করি লঙ এই তার চিহ্ন আছে, মিছা নাহি কঙ ॥ ৪২-০৪৪ ॥

तुमि भाल चिन्तिले ना करोङ् मुञि बल मोर चक्र तोमा लागि’ हैल विफल काटिते ना पारोङ् तोर सङ्कल्प लागियातोर पृष्ठे पडोङ् तोर मारण देखिया तोहार मारण निज अङ्गे करि लङ एइ तार चिह्न आछे, मिछा नाहि कङ ॥ ४२-०४४ ॥

tumi bhāla cintile nā karoṅ muñi bala mora cakra tomā lāgi’ haila viphala kāṭite nā pāroṅ tora saṅkalpa lāgiyātora pṛṣṭhe paḍoṅ tora māraṇa dekhiyā tohāra māraṇa nija aṅge kari laṅa ei tāra cihna āche, michā nāhi kaṅa || 42-044 ||

tumi bhala cintile na karon muni bala mora cakra toma lagi’ haila viphala katite na paron tora sankalpa lagiyatora prsthe padon tora marana dekhiya tohara marana nija ange kari lana ei tara cihna ache, micha nahi kana (42-044)

English translation:

(42-044) “When you desired their benefit, I was unable to use My power against them. My disc became powerless because of you. Due to your resolve, I could not sever their heads. When I saw how severely they were beating you, I covered your back. I then took the beating on My own body. Here are the marks. I am not speaking a lie.

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

Since Ṭhākura Haridāsa desired benefit for those envious miscreants, even though the Lord was angry at them He could not award them suitable punishment due to the Ṭhākura’s prayer. Therefore in order to protect His devotee the Supreme Lord personally accepted the blows of the envious persons’ weapons.
