Verse 2.3.81-084

Bengali text, Devanagari and Unicode transliteration of verse 2.3.81-084:

ন্যাসী বলে,—“এক ভিক্ষা আছযে আমার” নিত্যানন্দ-পিতা বলে,—“যে ইচ্ছা তোমার” ন্যাসী বলে,—“করিবাঙ তীর্থ-পর্যটন সংহতি আমার ভাল নাহিক ব্রাহ্মণ এই যে সকল-জ্যেষ্ঠ-নন্দন তোমার কত-দিন লাগি দেহ’ সংহতি আমার প্রাণ-অতিরিক্ত আমি দেখিব উহানে সর্ব-তীর্থ দেখিবেন বিবিধ-বিধানে” ॥ ৮১-০৮৪ ॥

न्यासी बले,—“एक भिक्षा आछये आमार” नित्यानन्द-पिता बले,—“ये इच्छा तोमार” न्यासी बले,—“करिबाङ तीर्थ-पर्यटन संहति आमार भाल नाहिक ब्राह्मण एइ ये सकल-ज्येष्ठ-नन्दन तोमार कत-दिन लागि देह’ संहति आमार प्राण-अतिरिक्त आमि देखिब उहाने सर्व-तीर्थ देखिबेन विविध-विधाने” ॥ ८१-०८४ ॥

nyāsī bale,—“eka bhikṣā āchaye āmāra” nityānanda-pitā bale,—“ye icchā tomāra” nyāsī bale,—“karibāṅa tīrtha-paryaṭana saṃhati āmāra bhāla nāhika brāhmaṇa ei ye sakala-jyeṣṭha-nandana tomāra kata-dina lāgi deha’ saṃhati āmāra prāṇa-atirikta āmi dekhiba uhāne sarva-tīrtha dekhibena vividha-vidhāne” || 81-084 ||

nyasi bale,—“eka bhiksa achaye amara” nityananda-pita bale,—“ye iccha tomara” nyasi bale,—“karibana tirtha-paryatana samhati amara bhala nahika brahmana ei ye sakala-jyestha-nandana tomara kata-dina lagi deha’ samhati amara prana-atirikta ami dekhiba uhane sarva-tirtha dekhibena vividha-vidhane” (81-084)

English translation:

(81-084) The sannyāsī said, “I wish to beg alms from you.” Nityānanda’s father replied, “Ask for whatever you like.” The sannyāsī said, “I have a plan to visit the holy places, but I do not have a suitable brāhmaṇa companion. Please give me this eldest son of yours to accompany me for some days. I will take better care of Him than my own life, and He will be able to see all the holy places.”

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

The Vaiṣṇava sannyāsī said, “I have appeal.” In answer to this, Hāḍāi Paṇḍita gave him permission to disclose his mind. The sannyāsī said, “Now I am engaged in visiting holy places. Since it is not the duty of a

sannyāsī to light fires and cook, and since everywhere there is a shortage of suitable brāhmaṇas, I do not get meals at proper times. Therefore I require a brāhmaṇa companion. If you give me your eldest son for some time, I will love Him more than my own life and your son will become conversant with various holy places.”

The word saṃhati means “with” or “in the company of.”
