The Chaitanya Bhagavata 2.1.257, English translation, including a commentary (Gaudiya-bhasya). This text is similair to the Caitanya-caritamrita and narrates the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, proclaimed to be the direct incarnation of Krishna (as Bhagavan) This is verse 257 of Madhya-khanda chapter 1—“The Beginning of the Lord’s Manifestation and His Instructions on Krishna-sankirtana”.

Bengali text, Devanagari and Unicode transliteration of verse 2.1.257:

শিষ্য-বর্গ বলে,—“এবে কেমত বাখান?” প্রভু বলে,—“যেন হয শাস্ত্রের প্রমাণ” ॥ ২৫৭ ॥

शिष्य-वर्ग बले,—“एबे केमत वाखान?” प्रभु बले,—“येन हय शास्त्रेर प्रमाण” ॥ २५७ ॥

śiṣya-varga bale,—“ebe kemata vākhāna?” prabhu bale,—“yena haya śāstrera pramāṇa” || 257 ||

sisya-varga bale,—“ebe kemata vakhana?” prabhu bale,—“yena haya sastrera pramana” (257)

English translation:

(257) The students asked, “From where did You get this explanation?” The Lord replied, “This is the verdict of the scriptures.”

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

The students asked the Lord, “How have You given such a strange explanation?” The Lord answered, “I have explained according to the conclusions and consistency of the scriptures.”
