The Chaitanya Bhagavata 1.11.17, English translation, including a commentary (Gaudiya-bhasya). This text is similair to the Caitanya-caritamrita and narrates the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, proclaimed to be the direct incarnation of Krishna (as Bhagavan) This is verse 17 of Adi-khanda chapter 11—“Meeting with Shri Ishvara Puri”.

হেন-মতে প্রভু গোঙাযেন বিদ্যা-রসে সেবক চিনিতে নারে, অন্য জন কিসে? ॥ ১৭ ॥

हेन-मते प्रभु गोङायेन विद्या-रसे सेवक चिनिते नारे, अन्य जन किसे? ॥ १७ ॥

hena-mate prabhu goṅāyena vidyā-rase sevaka cinite nāre, anya jana kise? || 17 ||

hena-mate prabhu gonayena vidya-rase sevaka cinite nare, anya jana kise? (17)

English translation:

(17) As the Lord thus passed His time in scholastic pastimes, His servants could not recognize Him, so what to speak of others?

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

By the will of the Lord, and to assist in His covered pastimes, His eternal associates did not understand His glories but rather acted as ignorant.

When the eternal associates of the Lord could not recognize Him, then how could ordinary materialists, who are expert in fruitive activities, know Him?
