Verse 1.2.109

Bengali text, Devanagari and Unicode transliteration of verse 1.2.109:

‘কেন বা কৃষ্ণের নৃত্য, কেন বা কীর্তন? কারে বা বৈষ্ণব বলি’, কিবা সঙ্কীর্তন?’ ॥ ১০৯ ॥

‘केन वा कृष्णेर नृत्य, केन वा कीर्तन? कारे वा वैष्णव बलि’, किबा सङ्कीर्तन?’ ॥ १०९ ॥

‘kena vā kṛṣṇera nṛtya, kena vā kīrtana? kāre vā vaiṣṇava bali’, kibā saṅkīrtana?’ || 109 ||

‘kena va krsnera nrtya, kena va kirtana? kare va vaisnava bali’, kiba sankirtana?’ (109)

English translation:

(109) People did not know why the devotees danced for Kṛṣṇa or chanted His names. They could not understand who was a Vaiṣṇava or what the purpose of saṅkīrtana was.

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

Ordinary people could not enter into the mysteries of why Śrī Advaita Prabhu danced and chanted, who was a Vaiṣṇava, and what was the purpose of saṅkīrtana. Similarly, ordinary people and fruitive workers are unable to understand the chanting of Kṛṣṇa’s names that is currently practiced by the servants of the Śrī Viśva-vaiṣṇava Rāja-sabhā.
