Having approached and propitiated him and mentioning their names, the two said to him: 'O Brahman, know that we have been vanquished by the Varasikhas in fight. abhigamyocatustau hm'k, abhigamya tatasi b. - tam hm b, tu fkn. - prasadya ° hm'bfk, pranamya ° n.-varasikhair n, carasikhair b, varasisair fk, varisikhair hdm'. 126. With you as our domestic priest we could conquer the warriors (ksatrabandhun).' That is to be recognized as ksatra (warrior caste) which protects the everlasting brahma (priestly caste). ksatrabandhun , ksatrabandhum hdm', ksetrabandhun k, ksetrabamdhun, ksetravantu b. 127. The seer saying 'yes' to them, addressed his son Payu: 'Make these two kings unassailable to their enemies.' tau tu hdm', tu tau bfkrn. - kurusvetau hdm'n, kurusvaitau bfr, kuruthaiti k, kuru putra 15 17. 128. Deities of Rig-veda VI.75 in detail—129. The first (stanza) of this hymn praises the warrior in his coat of mail (1), the second is (in praise) of the bow a (2), the third consecrates the bowstring (3) b. - dhanusasca 4, dhanu stauti B. - dvitiya tu hmir, dvitiya ca bfk - mantrini Afk, • mantrani b. a The genitive dhanusah would here, as often in the Brihaddevata, mean 'belongs to,' 'is connected with,' or it may possibly be governed by abhimantrini to be supplied from jyabhimantrini. This varga (129-133) is quoted in the Nitimanjari on Rg-veda vi. 75. I. b 130. The fourth stanza praises the ends of the bow (4), the fifth praises the quiver (5). With half of the sixth the charioteer, with the (other) half the reins are praised (6).

vi. 75 136. a Now the seer having with this hymn praised the implements of battle of these two (kings), sent them forth again against the Varasikhas. varasikhan bu, varisikhan hd, varisikham m', (puna ) dvarasipan 1, (punara ) thi- rasipan k. This and the following two slokas (136-138) are quoted in the Nitimanjari on Rg-veda vi. 27. 4. B 137. With the four stanzas 'This here of thee' (etat tyat te: vi. 27. 4-7) Bharadvaja praised (Indra) from a desire of aiding the king (Cayamana). Pleased thereby the Fort-destroyer, catasrbhi m'bfkrn (aghm), ca tisrbhi n (be). - ° kamyaya m bfkn, °kanksaya bhitustava mfkr (Sarvanukramani on vi. 75), pi tustava b, hi tustava n. - This and the following sloka are not found in A, but only in B and m¹. Bharadvaja and Garga a, being seen by Indra on the road, proclaimed that gift with the (stanzas) b 'Two' (dvayan: vi. 27. 8) (and) Prastoka' (prastokah: vi. 47. 22). 202 a Garga, son of Bharadvaja, is stated by the Sarvanukramani to be the seer of Rg-veda vi. 47, and Payu, son of Bharadvaja, of Rg-veda vi. 75; agreeing with the Arsanukramani, vi. 6, 8. Though the number of stanzas is not mentioned, the plural abhih, together with the contents of the passage in the Rg-veda, indicates that vi. 47. 22-25 (cp. Sarvanukramani) are meant. B 141. The seer on his part praised the gift of that (Cayamana), himself proclaiming what had been given (by him) with the one stanza, 'Two, O Agni' (dvayan agne: vi. 27. 8). This sloka is not found in A or m¹, but only in bfkr 2 r 5 r 7: after it bfk repeat 140, thus making up five slokas for the varga. 142. The deities who in this hymn a are occasionally b (prasangat) celebrated, Rathitara regarded as hymn-owning (suktabhaj) in praise (stutau) c. prasangatviha m', prasanga tviha A, prasangatriha b, prasangantiha, prasamganniha k, prasanga- diha . - rathitara stutau hdm'r 'r'r', rathamtaristutah b, bharathamtaristutah f, bharamthamtarisutah k, rathitarisutah r.-The end of the varga is here marked by 2 in m¹fk, by 20 corrected to in b, not at all in hd. b a That is, Rg-veda vi. 75, as the one under discussion.
