The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 2.3.140, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 2.3.140 contained in Chapter 3—Bhajana (loving service)—of Part two (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 2.3.140:

वयम् अत्र प्रमाणं स्मोऽनिशं वैकुण्ठ-पार्षदाः ।
तान्वन्तो बहुधा भक्तिम् अस्पृष्टाः प्रकृतैर् गुणैः ॥ १४० ॥

vayam atra pramāṇaṃ smo'niśaṃ vaikuṇṭha-pārṣadāḥ |
tānvanto bahudhā bhaktim aspṛṣṭāḥ prakṛtair guṇaiḥ || 140 ||

vayam–we; atra–here; pramāṇam–evidence; sma–are; aniśam–incessantly; vaikuṇṭha-pārṣadāḥ–the Lord’s associates in Vaikuṇṭha; tanvantaḥ–spreading; bahudhā–in many ways; bhaktim–devotional service; aspṛṣṭāḥ–unaffected; prākṛtaiḥ–by the material; guṇaiḥ–modes of nature.

Loving service to the Lord and to the Lord’s devotees are both transcendental. Indeed, we eternal residents of Vaikuṇṭha are evidence of this. We wander everywhere freely to spread devotion in various ways, and we are never affected by material qualities or even touched by them.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

“Our own experience is special evidence in this regard.” In this verse beginning with vayam, the eternal associates of Vaikuṇṭha present themselves as evidence of the transcendental nature of devotional service. They say, “We pārṣadas, who have attained Vaikuṇṭha, are endowed with transcendental forms. We freely wander everywhere, continuously spreading devotional service in many ways, without touching anything made of the twentythree material elements.”

In this regard, in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (7.1.35) Śrī Yudhiṣṭhira states: “dehendriyāsu-hīnānāṃ vaikuṇṭha-pura-vāsinām–The residents of Vaikuṇṭha, whose bodies are purely spiritual (śuddha-sattva), have no relationship with the material body, senses, etc.”
