The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 2.3.71-72, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 2.3.71-72 contained in Chapter 3—Bhajana (loving service)—of Part two (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 2.3.71-72:

तथाप्य् अस्वस्थम् आलक्ष्य स्व-चित्तम् इदम् अब्रुवम् ।
यद्य् अस्मिन्न् अनुभूयेत सा तद्-रूपादि-माधुरी ॥ ७१ ॥
तथापि दीर्घ-वञ्छा तेऽनुग्रहाद् अस्य सेत्स्यति ।
अचिराद् इति मन्यस्व स्व-प्रसाद-विशेषतः ॥ ७२ ॥

tathāpy asvastham ālakṣya sva-cittam idam abruvam |
yady asminn anubhūyeta sā tad-rūpādi-mādhurī || 71 ||
tathāpi dīrgha-vañchā te'nugrahād asya setsyati |
acirād iti manyasva sva-prasāda-viśeṣataḥ || 72 ||

tathā api–still; asva-stham–dissatisfied; ālakṣya–seeing; svacittam–my mind; idam–this; abruvam–I said; yadi–if; asmin–in him (Śrī Śiva); na anubhūyeta–is not experienced; –it; tatrūpa–that form (of Madana-gopāla); ādi–and so forth; mādhurī–the sweetness; tathā api–however; dīrgha-vañchā–this long-standing desire; te–your; anugrahāt–because of the compassion; asya–his; setsyati–it will be fulfilled; acirāt–before long; iti–thus; manyasva–just consider; sva-prasāda–his mercy; viśeṣataḥ–because of special.

Seeing that my mind remained dissatisfied despite my instructions, I told it, “O mind, although you are not able to experience the sweetness of the pastimes of Śrī Madana-gopāla in His form as Śrī Mahādeva, still, by the mercy of Śrī Mahādeva, your long-cherished desire will soon be fulfilled. There is no doubt about this.”

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

Śrī Gopa-kumāra says, “However, my mind was still not pacified, and I remained as unhappy as before. Again I said, ‘O brother mind, if by consideration of the philosophical truth (tattva-vicara) you are unable to taste that same sweetness in this form of Śrī Śiva, then listen to what I say. Although in Śrī Rudra you do not directly experience Śrī Madana-gopāla’s extraordinary qualities, pastimes, and so on, still, your desire to enjoy those sweet human-like pastimes will be soon fulfilled by Śrī Śiva’s uncommon mercy. O mind! Have faith and steady yourself. Do not vacillate. If you doubt this, he will never show you such mercy.’”
