The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 2.1.205, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 2.1.205 contained in Chapter 1—Vairagya (renunciation)—of Part two (prathama-khanda).

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration, Word-for-word and English translation of verse 2.1.205:

तथाप्य् उत्कल-भक्तानां तत्-तत्-सौभग्य-भावनैः ।
सञ्जन्यमानया तत्-तद्-आशयाधिः किलोद्भवेत् ॥ २०५ ॥

tathāpy utkala-bhaktānāṃ tat-tat-saubhagya-bhāvanaiḥ |
sañjanyamānayā tat-tad-āśayādhiḥ kilodbhavet || 205 ||

tathāpi–still; utkala–of Orissa; bhaktānām–of the devotees; tat-tatsaubhāgya–of their varied good fortune; bhāvanaiḥ–on account of my thoughts; sañjanyamānayā–manifesting; tat-tat-āśayā–desire for those various good fortunes; ādhīḥ–distress; kila–indeed; udbhavet–would arise.

When I thought about the good fortune of the Utkala devotees, in my heart, I hankered to also receive it. However, this desire also caused distress to my mind.

Commentary: Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā with Bhāvānuvāda

(By Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī himself including a deep purport of that commentary)

Śrī Gopa-kumāra says, “However, as soon as I thought about the Utkala devotees’ good fortune in being able to joke with Śrī Jagannātha-deva, I would also develop a desire for similar special mercy.”
