The Brihad-bhagavatamrita Verse 2.1.133, English translation, including commentary (Dig-darshini-tika): an important Vaishnava text dealing with the importance of devotional service. The Brihad-bhagavatamrita, although an indepent Sanskrit work, covers the essential teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-purana). This is verse 2.1.133 contained in Chapter 1—Vairagya (renunciation)—of Part two (prathama-khanda).

उद्यतेन गृहं गन्तुं करण्डे तेन शायितम् ।
जगद्-ईशं विलोक्यार्तो व्यलपं सास्रम् ईदृशम् ॥ १३३ ॥

udyatena gṛhaṃ gantuṃ karaṇḍe tena śāyitam |
jagad-īśaṃ vilokyārto vyalapaṃ sāsram īdṛśam || 133 ||

udyatena–who had arisen; gṛham–to his home; gantum–to go; karaṇḍe–in a small box; tena–by him; śāyitam–laid to rest; jagadīśam–the Lord of the universe; vilokya–seeing; ārtaḥ–very upset; vyalapam–I lamented; sa-asram–with tears; īdṛśam–like this.

After finishing the rituals of his worship, when the brāhmaṇa was ready to go home, he lay the Lord of the universe to rest in a small box. Seeing this I became very upset. Weeping, I began to lament.

Śrī Gopa-kumāra says, “After finishing his worship, the brāhmaṇa prepared to go home and then placed Śrī Bhagavān to sleep in a karaṇḍa, a container or wooden box for keeping the Deity.
